Pherurai faces another graft case Mamdot (Ferozepore), October 16 According to the copy of the FIR received by TNS, the case has been registered against Pherurai and Darshan Singh, former SHO of Mamdot, under Section 7, 13 (2) and 88 of the PCA on a complaint of Kashmir Singh s/o Bahal Singh resident of Mamdot Hithar on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to get himself released from illegal confinement of Mamdot police. Kashmir Singh has alleged that then SHO of Mamdot, Darhsan Singh, kept him in illegal custody for four to five days and threatened to frame him in a murder case. Gurcharan Singh Pherurai acquitted the main accused in the murder case from the FIR during preliminary investigations with mala fide intention before filing the challan in the court to book the complainant and Kashmir Singh on charges of murder, he has alleged. Tehal Singh, s/o Bhagga Singh resident of Mamdot Hithar, was murdered on the night of April 17-18, 2000, and an FIR was registered in this case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC against Labh Singh, Harbhej Singh and Gurdial Singh on the complaint of Mukand Singh, s/o Joga Singh resident of the same village. But with the connivance of Pherurai, who was then the SSP of Ferozepore, the accused allegedly managed to get their
names deleted from the FIR during a re-inquiry at the preliminary investigation stage. The complainant Mukand Singh was framed guilty and booked as the main accused in the murder case. Since Kashmir Singh was close to Mukand Singh, he was also picked up for investigations. “I was illegally detained for four days in the Mamdot police station and tortured. When my brother Channan Singh came to meet me, he was asked to arrange Rs 2 lakh to get Kashmir Singh released. We mortgaged 4 acres of land to Sukhdev Singh s/o Mohkam Singh resident of Killi village to arrange the amount”, complained Kashmir Singh. He further stated that SHO Darshan Singh then took him along with his brother to the SSP’s office at Ferozepore to deliver the amount to Pherurai. However, they were asked to sit outside the office. After a few minutes, the SHO came out and said that the SSP has agreed to release him but threatened them to keep it a secret, otherwise they would be framed in a case of some heinous crime. Mr Praveen Kumar Sinha, SSP of Ferozepore, told TNS that the police was preparing an application to file it before the relevant court to seek production warrants of Pherurai. Replying to a question, he said two more inquiries were pending before the Ferozepore police against Pherurai on charges of corruption. |
