Former Governor Mukarji dead

Chandigarh, August 29
Nirmal Mukarji, former Governor of Punjab, died in New Delhi this evening after a prolonged illness. He was 81.

The Governor of Punjab from December 8, 1989, to June 11, 1990, Mukarji was an ICS officer. He retired in 1980. He leaves behind his widow, two daughters and a son. He will be cremated at the Delhi Cantonment cemetry at 4 p.m. tomorrow. The Governor of Punjab, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), has condoled the death of Mukarji, describing him as an outstanding administrator. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also expressed profound grief at his death.
