11 killed as bus falls into khud

Shimla, August 29
As many as 11 persons were killed and 28 injured, 10 of them seriously, when a private bus fell into a khud near Nathpa in Kinnaur district, 180 km from here today.

The bus was on its way from Rekong Peo to Rampur. There were about 40 passengers on board when the mishap occurred. According to reports here, the bus rolled down about 350 ft and almost fell into the Satluj.

While eight persons died on the spot, three succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital. Those seriously injured have been brought to Indira Gandhi Medical College here. The remaining are at Bhabha Nagar hospital.

Senior district officers have rushed to the site.

Mr Suraj Bhan, Governor, and Chief Minister P.K. Dhumal, have expressed their condolences.

Three of the victims have been identified as M. Singh, Lafni Devi and bus conductor Inder Dev, as per a UNI report.
