No plan to ‘amend’ RBI Act
New Delhi, August 28
The Finance Ministry said today that there was no proposal to amend the RBI Act. The ministry’s clarification comes in the wake of reports that there was a move to restructure and revamp the RBI, an official press note said. About one and a half years ago the government had considered setting up an expert committee to look into the multifarious functions being discharged by the RBI and to suggest a suitable model for the future. Top KLO leader shot
Kolkata, August 28
A top Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) leader was shot dead in a police encounter in the Dakshin Barakathi forest near the Bhutan border today. Inspector-General of Police (Law and Order) Chayan Mukherjee said Rohini Adhikari, alias Sailak Sarkar, a sector commander of the KLO and a close associate of self-styled KLO commander-in-chief Jiban Singh, was shot dead during the encounter deep inside the forest in Jalpaiguri district.
