USA tells foreign ultras to close shop
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 28
There is a good news for India. Foreign militants thus far operating freely in Pakistan are being selectively bundled out of that country under pressure from the United States.

Authoritative sources disclosed to The Tribune today that foreign militants who have so far enjoyed Pakistan’s hospitality and funding are in for a rude shock as more than 1000 officials of the USA’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are working at different places in Pakistan to track down such militants. It is a well-known fact that Pakistan has kept the Jammu and Kashmir cauldron on the boil largely with the help of foreign militants.

In pursuance of this major tactical and political move and pressure by Washington, a number of foreign militants trained by the Al-Qaida have been sent back to their native countries, sources added. The most spectacular case is that some Uzbek militants belonging to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) who have been sent packing from Pakistan. Besides the USA, there was a lot of pressure from the Uzbek President for the Uzbek militants’ deportation.

Prominent among them are Ikhon Mamajanov and Hamidullah Kundravov. Both are believed to be very close to top Uzbek militant leaders Juma Namangami and T Yuklahev. Both were trained in Al-Qaida in terrorist camps in Afghanistan and expert in mine explosions.

Though Pakistan has sent back some Uzbek militants belonging to IMU, it is still harbouring and has given shelter to Namangami and Yuklahev.

Like other militants, they had crossed over to Pakistan after US war against terrorism commenced in Afghanistan.

Most of these terrorists are hiding in South Waziristan, Northern Areas and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. “Pakistan is already under pressure by the USA and some other countries to send back militants from Sudan, Chechnya, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Apart from Abu Zubayda, a top lieutenant of Osama bin Laden, Pakistan government has already handed over to FBI many Al-Qaida terrorists from Somalia and other countries.
