The Union Cabinet having made its viewpoint clear by returning the Ordinance to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1951, without any changes yesterday, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has given his consent for it to be promulgated.

Bathinda, Ropar plants on critical list
Central Coalfields asks Railways to stop rakes for Punjab
Patiala, August 25
The coal crisis has worsened in Punjab with two of the Punjab State Electricity Board’s thermal plants at Bathinda and Ropar coming on the critical list of the Union Power Ministry. Their coal stocks have been reduced to below 10 days of generation even as there is no relief in sight with the board’s biggest supplier asking the Railways not to place any rake in its coalfields for loading to Punjab.

India and Bangladesh today agreed to join hands in the battle against terrorism particularly its manifestation in the region as New Delhi denied it was playing a "big brother" role in South Asia.
