30 killed in Poonch mishap

Jammu, August 16
At least 30 persons, including women, were killed and 10 others wounded when their Matador rolled down into the Dangli Nullah in Poonch today.

According to the police, 28 bodies had been recovered so far. The Matador carrying over 45 passengers, was on its way from Poonch to Bandi Chachiyan when the driver lost control over the vehicle.

At least 25 passengers were killed on the spot. Five succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

The police and civilians rescued five persons and shifted 10 to the Poonch hospital.

Zaffarwal acquitted in passport case

Amritsar, August 16
Wassan Singh Zaffarwal, chief of the Khalistan Commando Force, was today acquitted by the court of Mr Jasbir Singh Kang, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Ajnala, due to lack of evidence. He was acquitted in the case relating to his entry in India on forged documents and a fake passport.

According to the police, Zaffarwal had entered India on March 9 last year from Italy. He was booked under Sections 420, 467, 471 and 12 A of the Indian Passport Act. He had entered under the fake name of Charnjit Singh (24), a resident of Kalasanghia of Kapurthala district.
