3 NC men shot in valley

Srinagar, July 26
At least nine persons, including five militants, and a president of the block unit of the ruling National Conference were killed in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley since yesterday.

The police here said militants shot dead Mohammad Sultan Bhat, president of the block unit of the National Conference, when he was coming out of a local mosque after offering prayers at Kanth Bagh in Budgam district last night.

Militants shot dead Sonaullah Khan and Wali Mohammed Khan at Bachipora in Budgam district last night. Both were NC activists.

Two militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and a police constable were killed in an encounter at Mohammadpora in Kulgam area of Anantnag district early today. A CRPF jawan was also injured in the exchange of fire.

A BSF spokesman said the encounter was still going on till the reports last came in. Two AK rifles with magazines and ammunition were recovered from the site.

Two militants of the Al-Badr outfit were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Galwanpora in Budgam district yesterday. They were identified as Shahid Irfan from Gujaranwala in Pakistan and a local militant, Manzoor Ahmad Mir. Two AK rifles, five AK magazines and 50 rounds of AK ammunition were recovered from the site.

A BSF spokesman said its troops along with that of the Rashtriya Rifles and SOG of the J and K Police, acting on a specific information raided the militants’ hide-out last evening. The hold up militants opened fire on the troops leading to an encounter, which continued for several hours, the spokesman added.

One militant of the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Rajwar forests in Handwara area of Kupwara district in North Kashmir yesterday. One AK rifle, three magazine, 46 rounds, one wireless set and three UBGL grenades were recovered from the slain militant, the police said.

Gula Mir, who was injured in a grenade blast at Lal Chowk in Anantnag recently, died in the hospital today.

Militants entered the house of an ex-serviceman, Atta Ullah Khan, at Sangiot in Poonch district of Jammu region last night and shot him dead.
