Girls bag top 3 Punjab matric slots

Girls secured the top three positions in the matriculation examination of the Punjab School Education Board, the results of which were declared here today.

The first position was bagged by Ravneet Kaur of Doaba Public Senior Secondary School, Parowal, Hoshiarpur, by securing 614 marks out of 650. Gurpreet Kaur of Guru Nanak National Public School, Mahilpur, was placed second by securing 606 marks.

There was a tie for the third position between Rohini Gupta of Holy Heart High School, Amritsar, and Sandeep Kaur of Nankana Sahib Public School, Qila Raipur, Ludhiana. Both secured 603 marks each.

Stating this, Mr Jagjit Singh Sidhu, Secretary of the board, told mediapersons that 2,84,075 students appeared as regular candidates for the examination this year, of which 1,67,877 had been declared as pass. In addition to this, 81,812 students gave the examination as private candidates, of whom 31,614 cleared it.

The pass percentage in the case of regular candidates this year is 59.09. Last year, the percentage was 49.17. In the case of students who appeared in the examination as private candidates, the pass percentage this year is 38.64. Last year, it was 33.53.

The Secretary said there had been a qualitative improvement in the preparation of results this year. He said the number of RL cases had come down to 1,300 this year from 5,000 last year.
