The high-level inquiry into alleged lapses in the construction of a park by the Improvement Trust in Block-C of Rajguru Nagar, which had led to the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl six months ago after a pillar had fallen on her, has maintained that the material used in the construction of the park was of good quality.

Sub-Inspector Chaman Parkash, in charge, Sherpur police chowki, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 by Mr Nau Nihal Singh, SP, City-I, here yesterday, was produced in the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr J.S. Chauhan, today. The magistrate sent the Sub-Inspector to judicial remand till June 15.

Badal flayed on river waters issue
Ludhiana, June 4
In a surprise move which may have far-reaching political ramifications, the BJP Kisan Morcha, a front organisation of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which shared power with the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in the state for five years, today assailed Mr Parkash Singh Badal, charging him with sacrificing the interests of the state with regard to river waters just to maintain his (Mr Badal’s) friendly relations with Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala.

Man injured in attack

Mr Lakhwinder Singh, 40, a resident of Bhattian village, was injured in an attack with sharp-edged weapons while he was going on his scooter on Monday. According to Ms Charanjit Kaur, wife of the victim, sometime ago there used to live a woman of suspicious character in their neighbourhood.

An ailing Civil Hospital
Ludhiana, June 4
The local Civil Hospital, also known as Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital, is in a sorry state in terms of infrastructure and also because of catering to the needs of almost twice the number of patients it can attend to. In this 100-bed hospital, there are more patients than its capacity at any given time the situation being grossly inadequate to deal with emergencies.

PCMS doctors hold rally
Ludhiana, June 4
In the wake of a statewide agitation of PCMS doctors and in response to the call given by the PCMS Association to hold ‘Jan-Chetna’ rallies at district headquarters, the PCMS association’s local unit held one such rally at the Civil Surgeon’s office today.
