The report of the expert committee constituted by the State Government in 1971 to streamline the functioning of the Pt. B.D. Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) appears to be gathering dust since it was submitted in 1998.The expert committee comprised noted orthopaedics surgeon from Mumbai, Dr N.S. Laud, ex-professor and head of orthopaedics, PGIMS, Dr P.S. Maini, professor of cardiology in AIIMS, Dr K.K. Talwar, and a few others. 

Faces music for writ against cable cabal
Faridabad, April 28
A Faridabad resident is facing the music for a writ petition filed by him in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the local cable TV operators. The livid cable cabal has started exerting pressure on the petitioner, a social activist, to withdraw the petition and reach an out-of-court settlement.

Woman who strangled daughter arrested
Rohtak, April 28
The police on Sunday arrested the woman who allegedly strangled her six-year-old daughter at Chamarian village on Friday night. Kavita, a resident of Chamarian village, allegedly murdered her daughter, Monica as she apprehended that a crime committed by her, could be disclosed to the village panchayat by the innocent girl.

Rise in crime against women
New Delhi, April 28
Even as various non-government organisations (NGOs) and a special cell in the Delhi Police are there to control crimes against women in the Capital, those of cruelty by husbands and in-laws and kidnapping of women have gone substantially during the last three years.

International wrestler shot dead
Sonepat, April 28
An international wrestler, Mr Raj Din, was shot dead by some unidentified-armed persons while attending a marriage party at Ahir Majra village, about 20km from here last night. According to a report, the victim had gone to the village to attend the marriage party of his friend, Mr Surinder, also an international wrestler.

Man killed in jhuggi fire
New Delhi, April 28
One person was charred to death when a fire broke out in a slum cluster, Kathputli Colony, near Shadipur Depot in West Delhi early this morning. The victim was identified as Brahmadev Yadav (27). He was found charred to death in his hutment which was gutted in the fire.

Life sentence for killing  husband
Faridabad, April 28
A woman, convicted for murdering her husband last year, was sentenced to life term by the Court of Additional Session Judge, Mr S. S. Lamba. Her brother-in-law and son, however, were acquitted due to the lack of evidence. 

16 judicial  officers appointed in Capital
New Delhi, April 28
Sixteen new officers to the Delhi Judicial service have been appointed by the government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Lok Adalat settles 6 cases
New Delhi, April 28
Six cases relating to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) were settled at a Lok Adalat organised by the Delhi Legal Services Authority. Additional District Judge Sunil Gaur settled six cases out of 15 cases across the table and the remaining nine were adjourned.

Summer diseases on the rise  in Faridabad 
Faridabad, April 28
The summer season has started unleashing its adverse effects. Hundreds of residents have been in the grip of water-borne diseases in the town. The Health Department, on its part, seems to be going on its ordinary pace in taking on the challenge, with the result that the number of patients of diseases like diarrhoea, vomiting, jaundice and cholera has started rising.

Mustafa Ghouse leads the seeded pack in ITF Tennis
New Delhi, April 28
Mustafa Ghouse of India has been given the top billing in the prize money $6250 ITF Men’s Satellis Tennis Tournament starting at the R K Khanna Stadium on Monday. Among the seeded players, three are Indians. Manoj Mahadevan has been seeded fifth while Nitin Kirtane gets the third slot, behind Tomer Suissa of Israel, seeded second.

Putting posters on walls may land you in jail
New Delhi, April 28
Posters on the walls and by the side of roads are a blot on Delhi’s landscape. They should be removed and the walls should be whitewashed. Urban Development Minister A K Walia’s instructions to the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Public Works Department (PWD) also include a directive to lodge First Information Reports (FIRs) against those whose posters or publicity materials are found to be put up on the roads and walls.
