Top HUJI ultra among 12 killed

Five members of a family were killed and two others injured in an incident of firing in the Rafiabad area of Baramula district in north Kashmir late last evening. Three others, including a security forces jawan, were killed in separate incidents in Kashmir valley since yesterday, while five militants surrendered before the security forces.

According to an agency report, a top Harkat-ul-Jehad-Islami militant was killed elsewhere in the valley.

The police here said that five members of a family were killed and two others injured in an incident of firing at Balhama in Rafiabad block of Baramula district last evening. They were identified as Mahda Sheikh, his son, Majnoon Sheikh, Gulla Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Abdul Hamid Mir.

A group of counterinsurgents allegedly attacked the inmates of a house at Balhama at about 8 p.m. last evening.

Senior police and civil officials visited the village this morning.

Meanwhile, about 4,000 people today took to streets in protest against the incident.

A sentry of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed when unidentified militants fired towards the guard posted at Radio Colony here last night, the police said.

Unidentified militants shot dead the proprietor of a bakery shop at Dalgate here this morning.

Three militants of the Al-Barq and one militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen surrendered before the Army and SOG of the police at Vilgam and Nagrimalpora in Kupwara district yesterday. They handed over two AK rifles, five magazines, 130 rounds, two pistols, three magazines, 28 pistol rounds, two hand grenades, five kgs of explosives and four RCDs.

One militant surrendered before the security forces at Handwara in Kupwara district and handed over one AK rifle, two magazines and 14 round.

JAMMU: Four security personnel were injured, two of them seriously, in two IED blasts in Udhampur and Doda districts of Jammu division on Wednesday, an official spokesman said here.

Two police constables were injured in an IED explosion at Warwan in Doda district this morning, he said. The injured have been admitted to the Government Medical College, Jammu, where their condition was stated to be serious.
