New Delhi, March 23
The fast-eroding credibility of the party with the electorate has forced the decision makers in the Bharatiya Janata Party to think of ways, including a change in leadership, for a total revamp of the party.

By bringing party President K. Jana Krishnamurthi into the Rajya Sabha, the ground for replacing him with an younger leader is being prepared and now choice is between Mr Pramod Mahajan, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, Ms Sushma Swaraj or the old war horse Murli Manohar Joshi.

As Prime Minister has ruled out sparing his Home Minister for the party, a growing thinking with in the party is that it would be in the interest of the BJP to streamline the organisation before it is too late.

The need of the hour is to have leaders in command of the party who can lead the party from the front in the general elections which are due in 2004 in the normal course, sources said expressing apprehension that a mid-term poll cannot be ruled out.

While during the national executive meeting next month in Goa the BJP leadership will focus on all these issue but pros and cons of different leaders who can replace Mr Jana Krishnamurthi are being intensely debated.Back
