India objects to Pervez’s comments

New Delhi, March 4
India today took strong exception to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s comments on the communal violence in Gujarat, describing these as an interference in its internal affairs.

“Pakistan is trying to derive propagandist advantage and completely disrespecting facts...this is something which is totally unacceptable to us,’’ an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson told reporters here.

She was reacting to General Musharraf’s reported statement in which he had asked the international community to take cognizance of the communal violence in India and respond to the evil.

The spokesperson said it was a matter of concern that the statements emanating from Pakistan in the wake of riots in Gujarat tended to border on “exaggeration”.

She said the international community was, however, aware of the steps being taken by the Indian authorities to deal with the situation. “ UNI
