The Sister had been invited to attend the CBCI meeting at Jalandhar. On her way back to Kolkata, she stopped over to spend time with The Chandigarh family.

First-aid training for city cops

In order to reduce roadside accident trauma, city policemen will now be trained in providing basic first-aid. Realising that there is need to provide basic medical aid during a roadside emergency situation by the police, the city police chief has decided to include basic first-aid training in the curriculum of the next refresher course for the city’s police jawans, scheduled to start next month.

A confusion over kerosene rates led to long queues outside various kerosene outlets in the city today, with hundreds waiting for kerosene. Kerosene was available, but could not be sold due to a problem with prices.

Three-year RI for two

Two residents of Guru Sagar Colony were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment today by a local court in a case of mischief by fire and explosive substance with an intention to endanger life. The two — Ram Naresh and Pappu — were also directed to pay a fine of Rs 500 by the court.

662 examined at eye check-up camp

As many as 662 patients with eye problems were examined at a free eye check up camp organised at Mahabir Hospital, Mour (Mansa). As many as 77 patients were operated up on and 27 lenses were implanted at the camp.

MC to drive away pigs

The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh will launch a campaign from March 15 to remove pigs from the city. This was decided here today at a meeting called by the Municipal Commissioner, Mr M. P. Singh, and attended by the Assistant Commissioner-I, Mr Ashok Vashishth, the Medical Officer Health, Dr G. C. Bansal and Dr M. S. Kamboj, Chief of cattle pond and slaughter house.
