Awami Conference, League merge Srinagar, March 4 The Awami Conference, that was constituted by militant-turned-politicians, Usman Majid and Hilal Haider last year, announced its merger with the Awami League led by Mohammad Yusuf Parray, alias Kukka Parray, at a press conference here today. The militant-turned-politician Parray, representing the Sonawar constituency in North Kashmir in the Legislative Assembly, who had parted ways with Usman Majid and Hilal Haider some time back, announced an end to the differences and resolved to work unitedly to achieve a “common goal” for restoration of peace and development. Kukka Parray pointed out that there were some important issues related to electioneering in the state. He held that his top priority was restoration of peace, free and fair poll, war against corruption and favouritism and unity of all three regions of the state. “Our aim is not only Assembly elections, which is the first step towards keeing the state politically united. Our aim is not the seat of power, but to create an atmosphere for a strong and constructive opposition”, Mr Parry stated. He said the people of Kashmir had been misled by political leadership from time to time with hollow slogans. He hinted at the “misdeeds” of the ruling National Conference since it assumed power in 1975 and demanded a commission for accountability of the ruling party over the years. The MLA held that instead of an independent Election Commission, as announced by the separatist Hurriyat Conference, there should be an accountability commission to look into the misdeeds of various political parties in the state. |
