Prime suspect in Pearl case held Karachi, February 12 It quoted the IGP in the province of Punjab, Malik Asif Hayat, as saying that Sheikh Omar, suspected of masterminding Pearl’s kidnapping, was picked up in Lahore on Tuesday morning. Pearl’s fate is still unknown. Meanwhile, three suspects accused of involvement in the kidnapping of Pearl were remanded in custody by an anti-terrorist court in Karachi today. A report from Karachi, quoting police chief Tariq Jamil, said Sheikh had said Pearl was alive during initial interrogation after his arrest. NEW
DELHI: India said on Tuesday that the arrest of Omar Sheikh confirmed New Delhi’s long-held view that Pakistan was providing safe haven to terrorists. It asked Pakistan to handover Sheikh.
