Russian chopper shot down, 11 killed
Moscow, January 27
Eleven Russians, including two generals, were killed today when their helicopter was downed near the provincial capital of Chechnya. The MI-8 helicopter the Interior Ministry, which exploded in mid-air near Shelkovskaya village, was believed to have been hit by an anti-aircraft missile fired by Chechen rebels, Radio Mayak reported. Interior Ministry General Lieut-Gen Mikhail Rudchenko and Deputy Chief of the Ministry Troops Maj-Gen Davydov were among those killed. Russia condemned the incident as an “act of terrorism”.
