Snow likely in Himachal, J&K New Delhi, January 23 Rainfall:
Weather was dry over the region. Temperatures: Past 24 hours change: Minimum temperatures fell in Punjab and east Uttar Pradesh and changed little elsewhere. Departures: They were below normal in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh and normal in the rest of the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 1.4°C recorded at Churu (Rajasthan). Forecast valid until the morning of January 25: Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of January 25: Hazy sky. Chilly winds during day time. Fog in the morning. Slight rise in minimum temperature and it will be around 7C. Farmers weather bulletin for Delhi: Forecast valid until the morning of January 25: Sky will be mainly clear. Cold wave persists in region
Chandigarh, January 23 With icy winds blowing across snow-clad mountains after Sunday’s widespread snow, Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana registered minimum temperatures of 3.40C, 3.60C and 4.20C, respectively. The people in and around Chandigarh shivered even though the minimum today rose to 50C, three degree below normal, against yesterday’s 3.60C. The day temperature hovered around 180C, two degrees less than the normal. Ambala turned out to be the coldest place in Haryana as the minimum temperature dipped to 4.10C, three degrees below normal, against yesterday’s 5.80C, while Hisar registered a minimum of 5.60C. Glaciers in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed fresh spells of snow in the past 24 hours and mercury there dipped to 270C below the freezing point. While Leh registered a minimum of minus 150C. Srinagar, was reeling under the sub-zero temperature of 3.20C, one degree below normal. At Solan, the minimum temperature reportedly dipped to 0.50C yesterday. Shimla witnessed the minimum rising to 2.30C, from yesterday’s 1.50C, yet it was still 1.5 degrees below normal. Bhuntar recorded a minimum of 0.40C, two degrees below normal, while Sundernagar reported a low of 2.60C.
Delhi-ites braved chilly weather conditions this morning with minimum staying two degrees below normal at 60C. Weathermen, here have forecast mainly dry weather conditions in the next 24 hours. However, western disturbances moving along north Pakistan and the neighbourhood could cause isolated light to moderate rain or snow on higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh over the next 48 hours.
