500 officers honoured
New Delhi, January 14
The Chief of the Army Staff, Gen S. Padmanabhan, on the eve of Army Day has commended the services of 500 officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, other ranks and civilian personnel in recognition of their devotion to duty, gallantry and distinguished services. Of the 500 awardees there are 300 officers from the Army, the Navy, the police, GREF and civil branches. The remaining 200 are JCOs and other ranks, including their equivalents in paramilitary forces. UNI

4 inmates flee from UP jail
Lucknow, January 14
Four inmates of the Sultanpur district jail, including two undertrials, on Monday escaped by scaling the boundary wall of the prison. State Principal Secretary (Home) Naresh Dayal said the prisoners cut the iron roads of their cells and jumped over the boundary wall. UNI
