Mishra meets US counterpart

Washington, September 25
National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra yesterday met his US counterpart Condoleeza Rice and other top officials to discuss India’s offer of support to the US efforts to stitch a global coalition to combat terrorism.

Besides Ms Rice, Mr Mishra met the Deputy Secretary of Defence, Mr Paul Wolfowitz, the Chairman of the House Committee on International Relations, Mr Henry Hyde, and a committee member, Mr Tom Lantos, and conveyed India’s concerns on terrorism.

“India has been strong in its commitment to democratic procedures and practices ever since the birth of the nation and we will be together in this fight against international terrorism,” Mr Lantos said after the meeting with Mr Mishra.

Mr Lantos also said that India’s interests would not be ignored. “We will reassure him that our deep friendship and respect for India is only enhanced by the events of the last few weeks,” he added. PTI
