BJP ‘big 3’ threaten to quit
Feel ignored by party high command

New Delhi, September 7
The “big three” of the Delhi unit of the BJP Mr Madan Lal Khurana, Mr Sahib Singh Verma and Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra, today met party President K. Jana Krishnamurthy and threatened to resign from the party positions they are holding.

Well-placed political sources said on Friday night that the three are miffed at the party high command continuously ignoring them which was evident from their non-inclusion in the recent Cabinet reshuffle in which their junior colleague Vijay Goel was sworn-in as Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office and Planning.

The three got together this morning and went to Mr Krishnamurthy to air their grievances. They told the party president that they saw no need for their further continuance in the party after their continued neglect over the past several years.

Mr Khurana, Mr Verma and Mr Malhotra are also understood to have told Mr Krishnamurthy that since the high command seemed to repose faith in young blood (an obvious reference to Mr Vijay Goel), young leaders should be entrusted with the work of strengthening the party as well. Mr Khurana and Mr Verma are Vice-Presidents of the BJP while Mr Malhotra is the Chief Whip as well as spokesman. The sources said the three were contemplating to announce their plan of action tomorrow at a news conference.

Efforts were underway, however, at the senior level to defuse the crisis. The sources said the three were under pressure not to wash their dirty linen in public and not do anything which could jeopardise the party image. Mr Vijay Goel told The Tribune that he did not have any competition with Mr Khurana, Mr Verma and Mr Malhotra as they were “far senior to me.” Mr Goel said he had met all three after taking over MoS (PMO) and taken their blessings. “They have made me what I am today. How can I have any competition with them?” Mr Goel asked rhetorically.
