Kashmir ultras-LTTE nexus New Delhi, August 16 It is also being ascertained whether any of the Kashmir militant outfits can possibly have a nexus with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which specialises in suicide operations, particularly those involving women. The information about women fidayeen, gleaned from the four hardcore agents of the ISI who were picked up from here and Lucknow a couple of days ago, was being verified and corroborated. According to well-placed sources here, Kashmiri militant outfits are going to increase their dependence on women militants in general and fidayeen, in particular. In the mid-nineties there were intelligence reports about a possible contact between the Hizbul Mujahideen and the LTTE through the intermediary efforts of the ISI. But apparently no dramatic results of this feared nexus came out. The basis for this suspicion then was that the Hizbul had received some money from Malaysian Hindu Tamils, who are known to be the traditional sources of funding for the LTTE. However, the reason for suspicion about their fresh nexus is the modus operandi. The security agencies have in the past few days gone on record saying the Kashmir outfits had raised special women fidayeen squads for torpedoeing Independence Day celebrations in the Capital. Women have numerous operational advantages from the militants’ point of view. Women lend certain respectability, play a crucial role for arranging safe houses and hideouts and are ideal go-betweens and messengers. The nexus between LTTE and Kashmir ultras can be deadly and signals a new and dangerous trend for Pakistan’s proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Tuesday’s blast in a train in Muradnagar (UP) was not the handiwork of any terrorist outfit, according to a classified report sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The train blast was caused by a crude bomb explosion, which probably went off accidentally. |
