Day two of summit: 34 die in valley
5 Army men killed in attack on security camp

Militants today attacked two Army camps killing five soldiers and injuring 13 others in the Kashmir valley, where the BSF foiled an attempt by the ultras to target Amarnath pilgrims.

Elsewhere in the valley, 22 militants were among 29 persons killed in intensified anti-militant operations since last night, official sources said.

Seven persons, including two militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, four civilians and a jawan were killed near Janbazpora on the outskirts of Baramula town last night. Two AK rifles, and a pistol were recovered from the site of the encounter. The police said the identity of those killed was being ascertained. Reports, however, suggested that all four killed were civilians.

Five Army men were killed and eight of their colleagues were injured when militants attacked a camp of the security forces at Shahlal, Magam, in Kupwara district of north Kashmir. The militants, however, managed to escape.

The security forces achieved a major success when they killed seven unidentified militants in an encounter at Manigah, Hayhama, in Kupwara district.

A militant was killed while five Army men were injured when militants attacked an Army camp in the Zachaldara area of Handwara in Kupwara district last evening.

A company commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen, Gulzar Mohammad Khan, was killed in an encounter with the security forces at Satoor, near Larnoo, in the Kulgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir. An AK rifle with three magazines and 85 rounds, three IEDs and five hand grenades were recovered from the site of the encounter, the police said here.

A militant of the Muslim Mujahideen was killed by unidentified militants at Achhabal in Anantnag district last evening. He was seriously injured in the firing by the militants and later succumbed to his injuries in SMHS Hospital here.

Two civilians were shot dead by unidentified militants in the Beijbehara area of Anantnag district yesterday. They were identified as Mohammad Saleem, a contractor, and Abdul Rashid, a schoolteacher.
