Amendment to divorce law
New Delhi, June 27
The government is likely to introduce in the Monsoon Session of Parliament a Bill to amend marriage laws, making it mandatory for the courts to decide within 60 days applications for interim maintenance filed by women facing divorce proceedings. The Bill would also seek to lift the ceiling of Rs 500 for interim maintenance provided under Section 125 of CrPC. With this amendment, the courts would be free to determine the interim maintenance for a woman taking into consideration the actual income of the husband. PTI
