10 drowned in flash-flood

Jammu, June 17
At least 10 persons, including four women and three children, were drowned when a vehicle, in which they were travelling, was washed away in flash-flood in Malhaar nullah near Reasi late last night.

Reports said 10 passengers were drowned and only three bodies had been recovered. The police and residents of the area rescued three passengers, including the driver of the vehicle. The driver was arrested on the charge of having driven the overloaded van when the nullah was in spate.

According to PTI, the mishap occurred when the pilgrims were proceeding to Jammu after visiting the cave shrine of Shiv Khori, housing the lingum of Lord Shiv in Reasi tehsil. Army and the police have launched rescue operations, they added.

Police parties had been rushed to the area and search for the remaining bodies launched.
