Bharat Shah’s son arrested

Mumbai, May 27
Rajiv Shah, younger son of film producer Bharat Shah, was arrested following a fight at a south Mumbai discotheque later last night, the police said. Six others were also arrested. A holiday court remanded him in police custody today. The Bhoiwada court would hear his bail application tomorrow. 

Diamond king and film financier Bharat Shah is booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act for his alleged links with Karachi-based don Chhota Shakeel. UNI

BJP leader denies report on RS seat

Amritsar, May 27
The Bharatiya Janata Party will not give up its claim to the Rajya Sabha seat in Punjab. Denying reports, the BJP central observer for Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, Mr O.P. Kohli, said this at a press conference here today.

Mr Kohli flanked by the senior BJP ministers Mr Balramji Dass Tandon and Dr Baldev Raj Chawla, pointed that the party had made its stand known to Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal. The party is staking its claim to the Rajya Sabha seat which had fallen vacant following the resignation of Rajmohinder Singh Majitha.

In the meanwhile, the Minister for Local Self Government, Mr Balramji Dass Tandon, today confirmed to newsmen that he had met the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, at Manali, yesterday and conveyed to him the feelings of the party leaders and workers about the Rajya Sabha seat.Back

 

Bhattal seeks Mohindra’s help?

In a new development Mrs Bhattal today visited the residence of senior Congress leader Brahm Mohindra along with other senior leaders to apparently seek his support on the eve of the May 29 meeting being held to review the party position in the state.

Mrs Bhattal visited the residence of Mr Brahm Mohindra along with former Pradesh Congress chief Harcharan Singh Hero and former minister Avtar Singh Brar. Mr Mohindra was till now perceived to be moving alone against PPCC President Capt Amarinder Singh.Back
