HC suspends 6-day week notification
CHENNAI, Jan 8 (UNI) — The Madras High Court today suspended the operation of its notification introducing a six-day work schedule, including Saturday, for subordinate courts, even as advocates all over Tamil Nadu boycotted courts in protest against the new regulation.

Plane missing
JAKARTA, Jan 8 (Reuters) — A small military plane carrying top security and local officials from Indonesia’s rebellious Irian Jaya went missing today in the remote eastern province, a police officer said. 

Orissa ex-minister convicted
BHUBANESWAR, Jan 8 (UNI) — Former Orissa Urban Development Minister Bata Krushna Jena was convicted and sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 by a special vigilance judge here for possessing property disproportionate to his known source of income. Jena was one of the 11 former ministers of the J.B. Patnaik government during 1985-1990 in the state who was chargesheeted by the state Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act for possessing property disproportionate to his known source of income.
