30 kg RDX seized, 4 arrested

NEW DELHI, Oct 15 — The Central Bureau of Investigation claims to have averted major militant attacks in Punjab, Delhi and other parts of North India with the seizure of 30 kg RDX and a large number of arms and ammunition. Four persons have been arrested in this connection.

Of the four arrested persons, two have been identified as Pyare Lal and Baldev Raj of Amritsar. Two accused are yet to be identified, the Special CBI Director, Mr P.C. Sharma said.

While addressing the media, Mr Sharma said the explosives and arms and ammunition were brought to the Capital from Pakistan.

Besides RDX, the CBI seized two AK-56 rifles, six magazines of AK-56, 163 live cartridges of AK-56, 20 pistols of star marks, 40 pistol magazines, 717 live cartridges for pistols, seven packets of timer pencils, six detonators, nine electronic detonators, six ABCD timers, cordex fuse wire and match fuse from their possession.

Five more killed in Bihar

BIHARSHARIF, Oct 15 (PTI, UNI) — Barely a day after the massacre of 11 members of a Yadav family, five persons belonging to a backward community were killed and two others seriously injured at Bhojpur village in Nalanda district last night, the police said today.

State Director-General of Police K.A. Jacob and Nalanda District Magistrate Rajesh Agarawal said heavily armed gangsters of the Akhilesh Singh gang attacked the village and fired indiscriminately, killing five persons. While the bodies of three were recovered from the incident site, two other bodies were found at a nearby paddy field.

Meanwhile, the police has taken eight persons into custody as Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav handed over cheques for Rs 1,30,000 each to families of those killed.

Mr Yadav, who visited the village, along with Excise Minister Shivanand Tiwari, Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Ramai Ram, Minister of State for Labour Rajballavh Yadav and BJP legislator Satyadeo Narain, handed over the cheques on behalf of the government. He also gave Rs 5,000 each to the victims’ families for the last rites of their relatives.
