Shia leader shot in Karachi
KARACHI, April 7 (PTI) — Unidentified gunmen today gunned down a prominent Shia leader, his son and driver here, the police said. Waqar Hussain Naqvi, Secretary of the Tehreek-e-Jaffria, his son Irshad Haidari and driver Waqar Hussain died on the spot . Meanwhile, four persons were injured when a bomb exploded outside a hotel in the Pakistan city of Rawalpindi today, the police said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast which took place a day after deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi on hijacking and terrorism charges.

2 SPOs shot
SRINAGAR, April 7 (PTI, UNI) — Militants targeted security personnel in the valley attacking their vehicle and killing two Special Police Officers (SPOs), who were among five persons shot dead in Jammu and Kashmir since last night. A Special Police Officer (SPO), Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, was killed by militants in Shumnag in Badgam district, while another SPO, Pamposh Ahmad Mian, was shot dead by militants when he was standing at a taxi stand in Pattan in north Kashmir, an official spokesman said.

Hawala case
NEW DELHI, April 7 (UNI) — The Supreme Court today dropped contempt proceedings against ‘Kalchakra’ Editor Vineet Narain and others for making certain allegations against former Chief Justice J.S. Verma and Mr Justice S.C. Sen in connection with the multi-crore hawala case. The proceedings, arising out of a petition filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association, were dropped by a three-Judge Bench.

NEW DELHI, April 7 (PTI) — Pawan Hans has decided to re-start helicopter service on Jammu-Katra-Sanjhichhat sector from April nine for the convenience of pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi. The first flight to the sector would be inaugurated by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Chaman Lal Gupta at Katra, an official release said today.Top
