DSP facing rape charge suspended

LUDHIANA, Feb 21 — DSP Ashok Puri, who had been accused of physical assault and rape by a minor was suspended today.

He has, however, applied for bail in the Ludhiana Sessions Court today and his bail application is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow.

The victim’s mother, Mohan Kaur and her step-father, Darshan Singh, were also arrested by the Jagraon police for their alleged role in the case under Section 376, 342 and 120 of the IPC.

Confirming this, the SSP, Jagraon, Mr Jaskaran Singh, said departmental proceedings against the accused DSP would also be initiated for the misuse of his official residence.

Meanwhile, the statement of the victim was recorded under Section 164 Cr PC wherein she reportedly alleged that the DSP had been sexually harassing her for the past six months.

It is also learnt that after the arrest of the parents, the victim and her three brothers have been sent to stay with their relatives and police security cover has also been provided to them.
