Mother gets life term
MUMBAI, Feb 11 (PTI) — A woman who killed her infant daughter by biting the child’s neck and crushing her face with a grinding stone two years ago, was yesterday sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life by a local court here. According to the public prosecutor, Savita had killed her three-year-old adopted daughter out of frustration because she often used to wet the bed and cry all the time.

Israel walks out
NAQUORA (Lebanon), Feb 11 (AFP) — A deadly Hezbollah attack in South Lebanon today prompted the Israeli delegate to storm out of a key US-convened meeting of truce monitors designed to defuse the mounting spiral of violence, one delegate told AFP. “The meeting had not formally opened before the Israeli delegation pulled out on orders from their government because of an external military event,” the delegate said.

Ananda Marga
NEW DELHI, Feb 11 (UNI) — The Ananda Marga said today that it would file a Rs 500-crore suit against the CBI for damaging the “fair name’’ of the Marga and the “immense harassment” caused to its leaders in the Purulia arms drop case. Ananda Marga spokesman Bhuvadeshananda Avadhuta said they were already consulting their lawyers in the matter and a suit would be filed at a suitable date.

  Lanka talks
COLOMBO, Feb 11 (PTI) — Norwegian Foreign Minister Knut Volleback will visit Colombo on February 16 to prepare the ground work for resumption of talks between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE to end the 17-year-old ethnic war in the island, the Foreign Ministry here announced today. He will also discuss cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations.
