Laloo,
Mishra denied bail
PATNA, Oct 30 (PTI)
Former Bihar Chief Ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and
Jagannath Mishra and five others, including three senior
politicians, were today denied regular bail in a
conspiracy angle case of the fodder scam and remanded in
judicial custody till November 13 by a designated CBI
court here.
Another accused, former
Bihar Minister Bholaram Toofani, was granted bail by
Special Judge S.K. Lal on medical grounds as he had been
ailing for a long time.
Besides Yadav and Mishra
those remanded in judicial custody were former Union
Minister Chandradeo Prasad Verma, former Bihar Minister
Vidyasagar Nishad, RJD MLA R.K. Rana, former Regional
Director of the Animal Husbandry Department S.B. Sinha
and supplier Harishankar Sharan Sinha.
Lal in his ruling said:
"There is a prima facie evidence showing involvement
of these accused in a conspiracy angle case (RC 64
(a)/96) relating to the fraudulent withdrawal of over Rs
97 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury on fake and forged
bills".
Yadav and Mishra were sent
to BMP Guest House, for "security reasons",
while the rest to Beur Central Jail.
The rejection of their
bail petitions followed two days of gruelling arguments
which began on Wednesday following surrender of the
accused as per directives of the Supreme Court.
Toofani,
who is suffering from high blood pressure and other
ailments, was sent to Patna Medical College Hospital
(PMCH).
The designated court had
on July 2 taken cognisance of the CBI charge sheet filed
on November 28 under relevant sections of the IPC and the
Prevention of Corruption Act and initiated the
proceedings against the accused.
This was the second time
RJD President Laloo Prasad Yadav and Bihar Jan Congress
Chief Patron Jagannath Mishra had been sent to jail in
connection with their alleged involvement in the
multicrore fodder scam.
The CBI court fixed
November 4 for the production of the accused who had been
granted bail earlier in yet another conspiracy angle case
of fodder scam RC 20 (A/96).
The instant case relates
to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 crore from the Chaibasa
Treasury in South Bihar.
