NEW DELHI, Oct 4 (PTI)
Mr Inderjit Singh, founder of Bank of Punjab Ltd
(BOP) and founder chairman of Punjab and Sind Bank died
here this morning, BOP vice-president Deep Singh said.
He was 87 and is survived
by his wife, three sons and a daughter. Mr Inderjit Singh
took to the banking profession in 1932 in undivided
Punjab and revived Punjab and Sind Bank in 1960 in India
which today has grown to a Rs 1000-crore institution
having 550 branches all over the country.
The BOP under his
leadership with a turnover of over Rs 2,700 crore has
emerged as one of the fastest growing private bank in
recent time.
Delhi state Akali Dal
president and former national general secretary of the
Shiromani Akali Dal Omkar Singh Thapar said Dr Inderjit
Singh was a saint who worked tirelessly for the welfare
of humanity.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, has
condoled the death of Mr Inderjit Singh who died in New
Delhi.
In a condolence message to
the bereaved family, the Chief Minister said the
contribution of Mr Inderjit Singh, who first established
Punjab and Sind Bank and later the Bank of Punjab, had
rendered yoemans service to the state.
Mr Parkash Singh said in
the death of Mr Inderjit Singh the country had lost a
great son.
