Alert for Americans in south India
WASHINGTON, Nov 28 (Reuters) — The USA has warned Americans in South India to be alert for potential violence on or around December 6, in the wake of threats from the Al-Umma. The State Department said yesterday that the Al-Umma — suspected in February 1998 bombings in Coimbatore that killed 46 persons — had threatened violence in Tamil Nadu on December 6 which was the anniversary of the 1992 destruction of the Babri Masjid in Uttar Pradesh in UP.

Nod for takeover of Mysore Palace
NEW DELHI, Nov 28 (PTI) — The Centre on Friday cleared the controversial Karnataka legislation for the takeover of the famous Mysore palace by the state government. State Law Minister MC Nanaiah said the Centre’s clearance to the Mysore Palace (acquisition and transfer) Bill had been communicated to the state government. The historic palace has been locked in a dispute between the government and the scion of the erstwhile Mysore Maharaja late Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, who had filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court claiming the property.

Medical cyclotron centre to be set up
NEW DELHI, Nov 28 (UNI) — A medical cyclotron centre in cooperation with the Belgium Government for producing active radio isotopes for diagnostic and therapy purposes for the treatment of cancer and heart disorders will be set up in Calcutta. For the project stated to be the first of its kind in South Asia, a memorandum of understanding was signed here on Thursday by West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd Chairman Somnath Chatterjee, MP, and Dr Bikash Sinha, Director, the Saha Institute of Cyclotron Centre, Calcutta, with Mr Frank Uytterhaegen of IBA.

Storm toll 203
HANOI, Nov 28 (Reuters)Two severe tropical storms that battered central Vietnam this month killed 203 persons, the country’s disaster management unit reported on Friday. Sixty persons were injured or ill as a result of the storms and another 19 were listed as missing, it said. Economic losses for the storms — Chip, which hit around November 14 and Dawn which followed five days later — were put at $ 49.2 million, the unit said. Top
