City's coldest night

CHANDIGARH, Dec 27 (UNI) — The entire north-western region continued to reel under shivering cold wave while the Union Territory of Chandigarh experienced the coldest night of the season with the minimum temperature dropping to 4.2 degrees Celsius which was three degrees below normal.

The dense fog which engulfed the entire plain belt of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh disrupted air, road and rail traffic.

The foggy weather conditions resulted in delayed departure of night and morning long-route inter-state bus services. The majority of the trains passing through Ambala were running much behind their scheduled time.

Hostile weather conditions prevailed in entire Ladakh region. With the mercury plummeting to several degrees below the freezing point. The natural water resources springs and lakes, including Chandertal in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, were frozen.

The entire Kashmir Valley was also experiencing ferocious weather conditions as temperature in Srinagar dipped to minus 6.5 degrees Celsius.

Ambala with 5.8 degrees Celsius temperature and Hisar with 5.9 degrees Celsius temperatures were the coldest places in Haryana while Amritsar with 6.7 degrees Celsius remained the coldest place in Punjab.back
