Angry exchanges at BJP meeting
From Our Correspondent

AMBALA, Dec 20 — A wordy duel marked a meeting of the executive committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the city last evening.

A number of members blamed the party's leaders for its poor state of affairs and alleged that they were ignored by senior functionaries.

Some municipal councillors present at the meeting said that if things did not improve, the party would meet a fate similar to that in Rajasthan and Delhi.

Mr Rajinder Singh, a councillor, regretted that the party did not fully back its unit president, Mr Nirmal Vij, who had to fend for himself.

This provoked Mr Ajay Kumar alias Ruby, president of the youth wing of the district unit of the party, to challenge the claim, leading to heated exchanges and Mr Vij had to intervene.

Mr Vij said the party unit was faction-ridden and that had led to demoralisation.

Satsang head denies inhuman treatment
From Our Correspondent

PANCHKULA, Dec 20 — The head of the Ruhani Satsang Manav Kendra, Sant Thakar Singh today denied that children at different centres run by his organisation were subjected to inhuman treatment during "prolonged" meditation sessions.

Denying the allegations which appeared in a section of press a few months ago, he claimed that children from the age group of 6 to 18 adopted by the organisation — with the will of their parents — were given a congenial environment to guide them to the path of spirituality.

The sant who was addressing a press conference at a Ruhani Satsang Manav Kendra near Mata Mansa Devi temple here, said the allegations pertaining to blindfolding of children and putting some ear drops in them to improve their concentration had been spread by some vested interests.

He said his preachings were aimed at lessening the human sufferings in the world. The need to infuse the faith in God was being preached by me, he added.

He offered the mediapersons to visit any manav kendra to see the methodology and environment given to the children. There are over 1400 children in 60 kendras spread all over the country, he said.

Appeal to check power theft

ROHTAK, Dec 20 — Mr Surender Singh, MP and general secretary of the Haryana Vikas Party, has urged party workers to motivate people to check power theft.

He was addressing the party workers at the HVP office here today.

He claimed that the government had been quite impartial in the matter of recruitment and reservation policy had been implemented properly. He said the government had been striving for the welfare of all castes and communities.

The party workers complained to the leader that despite their government the officials had been ignoring their ‘genuine’ demands. They said they came to know about his visit only through the newspapers while the party office failed to inform them.Top
