Udhampur administration seizes 312 kg polythene, imposes Rs 23K fine

The Udhampur district administration has seized 312.4 kg of polythene and imposed a fine of Rs 23,000 on the defaulters.
Under the supervision of Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, a massive drive was undertaken to make the district polythene free.
A team led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia and comprising other district officials including Assistant Commissioner, Revenue; CEO, Municipal Council; Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board; among others, conducted thorough search and seizure operations targeting illegal polythene use and distribution.
“The aim of the drive was not only to enforce the elimination of polythene and single-use plastics but also to educate and create awareness among the public about their harmful environmental impacts. The campaign emphasised promoting sustainable alternatives to plastic bags,” an official said.
He informed that a total of 312.4 kgs of polythene was seized during the drive, with fines amounting to Rs 23,000 imposed and recovered from the defaulters on spot to discourage further violations.
Teams were also mobilised at sub-divisional, tehsil, block and headquarters—to support the initiative. “Simultaneously, a comprehensive awareness campaign was conducted to educate the public about the harmful environmental impacts of polythene and to promote sustainable alternatives,” the official said.
