Farmers’ delegation meets CM, pushes for friendly reforms Tribune News Service Yamunanagar, December 20 A delegation of the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) met Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Thursday to discuss a range of issues concerning farmers. Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana and Haryana Mining and Geology Minister Krishan Panwar were also present during the meeting. BKS state general secretary Rambir Singh Chauhan said the Chief Minister assured the delegation that their demands would be addressed. Chauhan highlighted the exploitation of commission agents by contractors during grain lifting and stitching. He urged the government to hand over the responsibility of grain lifting from markets directly to commission agents. Farmers complained about being cheated during the paddy procurement season. “In the name of moisture, paddy was purchased at Rs 300 per quintal less than the declared price. This should be investigated,” said Chauhan. The delegation demanded that the government establish rice mills to break the monopoly of private millers. Chauhan called for the replacement of overloaded transformers for domestic and agricultural use, emphasising that costs for burnt or stolen transformers should not be recovered from farmers. He suggested that all patwar khanas should operate under one roof for better coordination. The delegation proposed abolishing GST on agricultural equipment and routing subsidies directly to farmers’ accounts. To promote organic farming, Chauhan urged the government to build organic markets and quality-testing labs in every district. Considering the high cost of sugarcane production, Chauhan demanded that the price be increased to Rs 450 per quintal. The delegation included state president Satish Chikara, vice-president Pratap Singh Khajuri, Surendra Singh, Mahipal Singh (Bhiwani), Dr Devendra Singh (Rewari), Ajit Singh (Palwal), Satish Gyong (Kaithal), Randeep Arya, Teg Singh (Karnal), Sunil Lohchap, Savita Mor and Pritam Singh (Hisar). The BKS leaders emphasised that addressing these issues would ensure better working conditions and fair treatment for farmers across Haryana.
