A woman was allegedly duped of Rs50,950 by a fraudster, who befriended her on Facebook.

According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Sector 44, reported that an unknown person sent her a request on Facebook and claimed that he was a pilot with British Airways.

The suspect started chatting with the complainant and expressed the desire to send her a gift. The suspect insisted that the complainant receive the gift.

Later, an unknown person called the complainant and introduced himself as a customs officer. He asked the complainant to deposit Rs50,950 as customs charges.

Unaware that she was being fooled, the complainant deposited the money in a back account provided by the suspect. However, she did not receive the parcel.

She later realised that she has been duped and submitted a complaint to the police, who registered a case of cheating at the Sector 34 police station.
