The work towards constructing green areas around the Ram Temple at Ayodhya has begun. Nearly 70 per cent of the area around the temple complex will be covered with 80 species of trees and plants mentioned in the Ramayana.

80 species, 35 shrubs chosen

  • Over 80 tree species and over 35 shrubs and flower species mentioned in the Ramayana have been chosen to adorn the Ram Temple complex in Ayodhya
  • The temple trust said the plan was to integrate native species with those mentioned in the Ramayana, along with other indigenous species from Saryu ecosystem

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Kshetra Trust said, “The heart of any landscape design lies in the careful selection of its flora. It is planned to seamlessly integrate the native species with those mentioned in the Ramayana, along with other indigenous species from the Saryu ecosystem, resulting in a harmonious blend of colours, scents and textures that pay homage to ancient traditions while embracing the rich biodiversity of the region. Over 80 tree species and over 35 shrubs and flower species have been chosen to adorn the temple complex.”

The GMR group through its CSR arm, GMR Vara-Lakshmi Foundation, will be undertaking the task of enhancing the green cover around the temple. “The GMR group with its unwavering commitment to excellence and social responsibility, has undertaken the task of developing greenery in the Sri Ram Janma Bhoomi Teerth Kshetra complex as a charitable initiative. Through meticulous planning and use of sustainable practices, the greenery and plantation activities are being taken in a manner that would enhance the overall experience of the pilgrims within the temple complex,” the trust said.

The trust believes that the beauty of the temple complex will be enhanced with the greenery around it.

Small forests along the Saryu are also being developed, incorporating 84 tree species mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana.
