Patiala, April 4
Following good rain spells in the past that resulted in good water levels in dams at the beginning of the season, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has generated 4,939 million units (MUs) of electricity in the year 2019-20 and have surpassed its previous highest record generation of 4,936 MUs since formation of PSPCL by own hydro plants achieved in the year 2011-12.
As per data prepared by officials, the corporation’s own hydro plants have generated 31 per cent more energy i.e 1,174 MUs more this year than the target of 3,765 MUs fixed by the Central Electricity Authority of India.
“This has been possible due to efficient operation and maintenance of all the generating units in hydro plants by the hydel team”, said Baldev Singh Sran, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, PSPCL. He said all the units at hydro plants in Punjab have provided much required flexibility and reliability to the power grid and helped the corporation to save money by cutting down costly generation. Sran said the work on 206 MW Shapur Kandi Power Project was going on well and the project will be commissioned in 2022.
