A 75-year-old farmer was killed in a road accident on the NH-44 near Rai yesterday night. The deceased has been identified as Jeet Singh of Nathupur Garbi village in Moga district (Punjab).
The police registered a case against the car driver and handed over the body to his family after the postmortem examination today.
The deceased’s brother, Surjeet Singh, in his police complaint, said he and Jeet Singh were crossing the road to go to their tents after having dinner at a dhaba when a car coming from the Delhi side hit his brother.
He was taken to General Hospital, from where doctors referred him to the PGIMS, Rohtak. He, however, succumbed to injuries on way to Rohtak.
The car driver tried to escape but, after a brief chase, he was nabbed and handed over to the police.
