Prof Jai Rup Singh, former president, Indian Society of Human Genetics, will inaugurate the new academic session of the PGIMER on Tuesday at Bhargava Auditorium.

He will speak on ‘Myths, legends, fiction or genetic errors —current scenario’.

Prof Jai Rup Singh joined as the Founder Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab (CUPB) on February 28. Prior to this, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, since July 2006. Dr Jai Rup Singh is an internationally recognised scientist.

He has done significant research on genetics of eye diseases, diabetes and population disease profiling.

As many as 150 students have joined the postgraduate courses of major specialties — MD/MS, DM/MCh, PhD — and other courses at the PGIMER.

Since its inception, the PGIMER has produced 6,200 specialists, 2,200 super specialists and a large number of postgraduates in basic and allied sciences.

A majority of the alumni are occupying top positions in different institutes of the country and abroad. The pinning ceremony for new entrants to the PGIMER will be held during the function.
