Olympic medallist and pistol shooter, Manu Bhaker, while rejecting the ongoing gossip on social media regarding her marriage, said she was, at present, focusing upon her next target of clinching gold in the Olympics. However, she will be able to participate in any international event after five months.
“I have taken a break from shooting for three months, while some more time is needed to address the injury issue, hence I will be able to participate in the next competition after around five months,” Manu said on reaching Haryana’s Jhajjar district first time after winning medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics. She belongs to Goriya village of this district.
Manu maintained that Olympic bronze medals too were giving her a lot of motivation. “I will keep striving hard to win gold in the next Olympics,” she added.
Sumedha Bhaker, mother of Manu, said her daughter’s target was to bring gold for the nation from Paris as she toiled hard for 10-12 hours in a day to achieve this feat but luck too matters.
“We are glad that her hard work bore fruits. She succeeded to clinch two medals in the Paris Olympics,” Sumedha Bhaker added.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh welcomed Manu.
“Manu has brought laurels to the country and the state by winning two medals in the Paris Olympics. She has become the first player to win two medals in the same Olympics. It is a matter of pride for us that India has won six medals in the Paris Olympics. Half of these medals have been won by promising players of Jhajjar district. I am confident that Manu will bring more pride to the country by winning medals in the future,” said Singh.
Thereafter, Manu along with her parents worshipped the Kamdhenu cow in a Gaushala located on the Gurugram Road and left for her native village Goriya.
Jhajjar ADC Saloni Sharma, SDM Jhajjar Ravindra Yadav, DIPRO Satish Kumar, District Sports Officer Lalita Malik, along with the coaches and players of the department, were also present on the occasion.
