New Parliament building by 75th Independence anniv in 2022: Birla
New Delhi, December 13
India will have a new Parliament building when it celebrates its 75th year of Independence in 2022, Speaker Om Birla said today.
Session ends with 100% productivity
The winter session, which saw the passage of several legislations, including the ones on citizenship and special protection group, ended on Friday. The LS recorded a productivity of 115% while for Rajya Sabha it was about 100%.
“The process of the new Sansad Bhawan is going on…,” Speaker Birla said following the conclusion of the winter session that saw the passage of key legislations, including the citizenship laws.
Birla also said the majority of MPs were of the view that the present structure is retained. Notably, the Narendra Modi government’s ambitious plan of a makeover to the Lutyens’ Delhi includes redevelopment of the Central Vista — the 3-km stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan, North and South Block up to the India Gate. — TNS
