Gurdaspur, January 25

Sugarcane farmers are the latest to join the agitation against the three agricultural laws at the Delhi borders.

Though they do not take their produce to the APMC markets and are assured the State Advised Price (SAP), thousands of farmers from this sugarcane-rich district are making a beeline to Delhi in tractor-trailers to stand by their protesting brethren. They say “if the government doesn’t support paddy and wheat-growing farmers today, sugarcane growers could be the next target tomorrow.”

So far, 300 tractor-trailers, each carrying 10-15 farmers, have already left for the national capital to take part in the January 26 rally. — TNS
