Lahaul-Spiti administration expedites free power scheme implementation
The district administration of Lahaul and Spiti has intensified efforts to effectively implement the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar free electricity scheme. The initiative aims to enhance solar rooftop capacity and empower residential homes to generate their own electricity in Lahaul and Spiti district.
A meeting of the district-level committee for the scheme was held at Keylong under the chairmanship of Rahul Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti.
Key officials in attendance included Devender Thakur, Project Officer of the Himachal Energy Department; Manoj Thakur, Project Officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Department, and Vijay Thakur, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department.
The Deputy Commissioner urged committee members to identify suitable revenue villages in the district and to promptly prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the necessary infrastructure. He emphasised the importance of coordinating with local gram panchayats and other stakeholders during the DPR preparation.
Highlighting the scheme’s objectives, the DC stated that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar initiative aims to empower rural communities to become more self-sufficient in meeting their energy needs. The plan focuses on reducing reliance on utility companies and helping households save on energy bills by promoting solar-based domestic lighting, solar water systems in villages, and solar pumps for agricultural purposes.
