Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has ordered immediate withdrawal of the letter issued by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare to the districts in connection with no free services for emergency medical treatment during the first 24 hours and free treatment to girl child of 1-5 years’ age in government hospitals.

The minister clarified that the said communication was inadvertently issued by the PNDT Division without the government’s approval. He said the matter was brought to his notice and he ordered revocation of the communication.

He reiterated that free treatment for girl child in 1-5 year age group and first 24 hours in the emergency were being provided in government hospitals and these services shall remain free for the public as earlier.
