Around six members of a family were attacked and seriously injured by some people over a political rivalry in Khuian Sarwar village on Saturday.

Victims, Prince, and his brother Judge Singh said while they were on their way to their shop from home, Baljit Singh, who was elected the Panch last month, and his colleagues attacked them.

When Prince’s father Inderjit Singh, uncle Harnam Singh and latter’s wife Paramjit Kaur intervened, they were also targeted and injured.

Later, all of them were admitted to Abohar Civil Hospital.

Prince said his father had contested against Baljit in the panchayat poll, but lost the election. However, Baljit still held grudges.

Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Sukhjinder Singh Rajan condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the miscreants.

He said it was unfortunate that panchayat election-related rivalry prevailed even after six weeks of the polling.
